Treatment
Crowns
Strength and beauty for broken-down teeth.
A crown protects a heavily filled, cracked or root-treated tooth by covering it completely — and a modern ceramic crown is indistinguishable from the teeth beside it.
What is it?
A precision-made ceramic cap that fits over a prepared tooth, restoring its strength, shape and colour. Digital scanning means accurate fits and no unpleasant impressions.
Is it for you?
- A tooth with a large or failing filling
- Cracked or root-treated teeth that need protection
- Replacing old, dark-edged crowns with natural ceramic
The process
How it works
Every step, up front — so nothing about your visit is a surprise.
Preparation & scan
The tooth is shaped under local anaesthetic and scanned digitally. You leave with a well-fitting temporary crown.
Crafting
A technician makes your crown to match the exact shade and translucency of your neighbouring teeth.
The fit
Your crown is checked, adjusted and bonded — and should simply disappear into your smile.
FAQs
Common questions
The questions I'm asked most about this treatment.
How long do crowns last?
10–15 years is typical, often much longer. The better you clean around it, the longer it lives.
Will it look like a 'fake tooth'?
No — modern ceramics are layered and translucent like enamel. My favourite compliment is when a patient's own hygienist can't find the crown.
Is the tooth drilled a lot?
Some reshaping is unavoidable, but I'm conservative — the goal is always to keep as much of your natural tooth as possible.
